Der französische Zertifizierungsverband für ökologische Produkte wurde 1991 gegründet und hat 2002 einen Standard für Kosmetik entwickelt. Bei der Zertifizierung wird dabei zwischen Naturkosmetik und Biokosmetik unterschieden. Um das Label für Naturkosmetik zu erhalten, muss ein Produktes zu mindestens 50 Prozent aus pflanzlichen Stoffen bestehen, mindestens fünf Prozent aller Rohstoffe müssen aus ökologischen Anbau stammen. Für das Biokosmetik-Label sogar aus 95 Prozent natürlichen Stoffen und zehn Prozent aus biologischem Anbau. Natürlich dürfen auch hier viele Stoffe nicht verwendet werden, etwa Silikone oder synthetische Inhaltsstoffe.

ECOCERT is an "inspection and certification body for sustainable development. Its focus lies on the certification of organic agricultural products.

The french certification body has been established in 1991 by agronomists. ECOCERT' main focus lies on in-field inspection with following certification of compliance to the standards. Standards are based on technical criteria.

ECOCERT's standards and specifications include:

  • EFT (Ecocert Fair Trade) – Organic and fair trade products
  • Eve® (Ecological green spaces)
  • Inputs eligible for use in organic farming (fertilisers, phytosanitary products, etc)
