Vertrauenswürdig und nachhaltig —Greenpeace Gütezeichen-Guide
Das Siegel definiert Mindeststandards, aber viele andere Bio-Siegel gehen über diese Standards hinaus (AMA Biosiegel, Bio Austria, Prüf Nach!). Es ist daher vertrauenswürdig für Bio-Produkte, aber nicht das beste Bio-Siegel.

Seit 2009 (oder 2010) wird das Zertifikat über akkreditierte nationale Institutionen ausgestellt. Die EU überwacht die Einhaltung der Vorschriften in den Mitgliedsstaaten. Jede Zertifizierungsstelle wird jährlich inspiziert.

Mindeststandards für Bioprodukte sind definiert, darunter freier Auslauf für Lebendvieh, streng geregelter Einsatz von Antibiotika, Verbot des Einsatzes von chemisch-synthetischen Pestiziden und Düngemitteln, die Verwendung von Lebensmittelzusatzstoffen oder gentechnisch veränderten Zutaten.

In Österreich kann das Siegel über die agroVet GmbH zertifiziert werden.

Textangaben

Nach dem Benutzerhandbuch bzw. die Rechtsquelle ist der zum Logo gehörende Code wie folgt definiert:

AB-CDE-999
(Codenummer der Zertifizierungsstelle)

AB = ISO-Ländercode gemäß Artikel 58 Absatz 1 Buchstabe a) nach ISO 3166
CDE = aus drei Buchstaben bestehender Begriff für die ökologische/biologische Produktion gemäß Artikel 58 Absatz 1 Buchstabe b, z. B. "öko", "org", "eko", "bio" usw. (definiert in Artikel 23 Absatz 1 der Verordnung (EG) Nr. 834/2007, siehe unten die vollständige Liste der Begriffe)
999 = Referenznummer mit max. 3 Ziffern, wie in Artikel 58 Absatz 1 Buchstabe c) festgelegt
